Patio Cover Permit Requirements in Temple, TX
Based on City of Temple published sources. Confirm with Permits & Inspections before you build.
Do you need a permit?
Yes. Temple lists porch covers, carports and gazebos as accessory structures, and says an accessory structure requires a permit under the International Building Code.
What to know
- Accessory structures must be at least 3 feet from side and rear property lines or fences and 10 feet from the home.
- For a carport connected to the home, the city needs to know how it attaches.
- If you're pouring a slab, the city requires the same items as a flatwork permit.
Typical documents
- Site plan showing the cover, its size and distances to property lines and the home
- Elevations (drawing, rendering or advertisement) with materials listed
- Foundation type: slab, blocks, piers or engineered foundation
Who can apply & how
- Apply online through MGO Connect. Permit fees are non-refundable.
- After a permit is paid, the city has 10 business days to review it. No work may start until the permit is approved.
- Temple has adopted the 2015 International Codes and the 2023 National Electrical Code. Schedule inspections through MGO Connect or at (254) 298-5277.
Practical tips
- Mark clearly on the site map where the cover will go.
- Check HOA rules on roof material and placement.
