Do you need a permit?
Check with the city. Decks are listed on Granbury's Residential Accessory Structure Permit Application, and the city requires permits for new construction and for enlarging a building. We couldn't find any size or height at which Granbury lets you skip a deck permit, so confirm with Building Inspections.
What to know
- The application asks for a foundation design; minimum pier, footing and anchorage requirements apply.
- If electricity will be added, the electrical contractor needs a separate permit.
- If plumbing will be added, a Plumbing Contractor Acknowledgement Form is required.

Who can apply & how
- Permits are issued by the City of Granbury Building Inspections, Permits & Code Enforcement Department on the first floor of City Hall, 116 W. Bridge St. Hours are Monday–Thursday 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. and Friday 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
- Granbury now takes permit applications, documents and inspection requests online through OpenGov.
- Effective July 21, 2026, Granbury adopted the 2024 International Codes and the 2023 National Electrical Code for all projects submitted on or after that date.
