Do you need a permit?
Yes. Granbury's fence permit application says all fences require application and approval from the city, plus HOA approval where there is an HOA.
What to know
- Fences over 6 feet tall require engineered plans.
- Fences are not allowed in a drainage easement.
- Fence rules are in Section 11.12, Screening Fence and Wall Standards, of the city code. The application also asks whether the property is in the Historic District.

Who can apply & how
- Permits are issued by the City of Granbury Building Inspections, Permits & Code Enforcement Department on the first floor of City Hall, 116 W. Bridge St. Hours are Monday–Thursday 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. and Friday 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
- Granbury now takes permit applications, documents and inspection requests online through OpenGov.
- Effective July 21, 2026, Granbury adopted the 2024 International Codes and the 2023 National Electrical Code for all projects submitted on or after that date.
Practical tips
- Call 811 before digging post holes.
- If the fence is installed incorrectly, the city can require you to remove and replace it.
